Who knew?!
2 lowly little avocado pits, chopped, boiled with a touch of soda ash, and strained = a subtle rosy natural ink.
A few years ago I purchased an absolutely gorgeous book by Canadian author Jason Logan, entitled Make Ink : A Forager's Guide to Natural Inkmaking . I paint prairie inspired abstracts and landscapes, and love to incorporate “living” inks and dyes made from foraged earth, leaves, blooms and bark into my work. Granted the avocado is a departure from my typical “prairie” theme but I buy them so often I could make the argument that they are native to our house?!?
Regardless….the results are a surprising and gorgeous rosy coral shade. Such a transformation in colour!
